Are you thinking about getting your driver’s license?
Wondering where you should start?
Take a look at our step-by-step guide to getting your driver’s license.
Step 1: Register with Trans-Canada for the Road Safety Education Program (RSE)
Step 2: Attend Phase 1 which consists of 4 in-class theory session (each session is 1 hr 55 mins)
Step 3: Successfully pass the knowledge test at the end of Phase 1
Step 4: After having passed the knowledge test at Trans-Canada, go to the SAAQ to get your Learner’s License
Keep in mind that once you have your Learner’s License, you can only drive with someone who has held a valid regular Driver’s License for at least two years.

The Probationary License can only be obtained if you have held your Learner’s License for at least 12 months and have successfully complete the RSE Program as follows:
Step 1: Complete Phase 2 which consists of 4 sessions of in-class theory (55 mins each) and 4 sessions of in-car driving (55 mins each).
Step 2: Complete Phase 3 which consists of 6 session of in-class theory (55 mins each) and 6 sessions of in-car driving (55 mins each).
Step 3: Complete Phase 4 which consists of 4 session of in-class theory (55 mins each) and 5 sessions of in-car driving (55 mins each).
After having held your Learner’s Permit for at least 10 months, you must write the second knowledge test at the SAAQ. Upon successfully passing the knowledge test, you are eligible to do the road test at the SAAQ if you have held the Learner’s License for at least 12 months.

At Trans-Canada we offer Road Test Preparation sessions. We want to make sure that we cover every aspect of the road test with you and want to ensure that you walk into the exam confidence.
Road Test Preparation Checklist: (Including but not limited to the following)
– Control of the vehicle
– Respecting the rules and regulations
– Lane changes
– Blind spot verification
– Parking (parallel and lot parking)
– Highway
– Exam zone (depending on the location of the road test, we take our students to the exam zone to help familiarize them with flow of traffic)
